Alberta NDP leadership candidate Kathleen Ganley is proposing to increase the provincial minimum wage after five years of the UCP Government ignoring working people while the cost of living soared.
“I am focused on people, and making sure the economy works for them,” Ganley said. “Costs for rent, food, utilities, car insurance and more have risen substantially in the last five years. Inflation is up 18 percent, but minimum wage hasn’t moved at all.”
Ganley is proposing:
An immediate increase of the minimum wage from $15 to $16.
A further increase to $17 in 2025.
A permanent tie between the minimum wage and the rate of inflation.
The immediate removal of the youth minimum wage.

“By October of this year, Alberta’s minimum wage will be tied for the lowest in the country — and that is unacceptable,” Ganley said.
